What do nurses earn under a collective agreement?

Basic salary by pay group, step and working hours, down to the cent from the valid pay table, not rounded and not estimated. For nursing, OTA, ATA, MTR and MFA, each according to the collective agreement that applies to your hospital. Including the full step ladder.

5 collective agreements. The calculation is based on the TVöD-P, nursing at municipal employers (VKA), changeable in the form. Church-based providers have their own agreements (AVR Caritas Annex 32, AVR Diakonie Deutschland, BAT-KF), and private chains often use an in-house agreement; these tables are not yet covered. Which collective agreement applies to a specific position is stated in the ad on klinovo.

Are you a physician? There is a separate calculator for that, with the TV-Ärzte/VKA and AVR Caritas Annex 30. Go to the calculator for medical staff

Questions and answers

What the figure means. And what it does not

Is the amount gross or net?

Gross, specifically the collectively agreed basic monthly pay. It does not include time supplements for night, Sunday and public holiday work, rotating shift and shift allowances, the nursing allowance or the annual special payment. Anyone working a three-shift system therefore ends up noticeably above the amount shown here.

Why do some hospitals use P and others KR?

Because they are two different collective agreements. Municipal hospitals and care facilities apply the TVöD with the nursing pay structure, where the groups are called P 5 to P 16. The state university hospitals apply the TV-L with Annex C, where the groups are called KR. Both can be selected in this calculator.

Do all my years of professional experience count towards the step?

No. What counts are the years spent in the respective pay group. TVöD and TV-L handle the effect of a regrading on the step differently, which is why the calculator shows the full step ladder of the group you select. If you open both groups one after the other, you can see the difference step by step.

How do I move up to a higher pay group?

Through the work you do, not through length of service. The pay regulations tie the groups to specific criteria: a completed specialist further training, practice supervision, leading a team, a ward or a department. The steps within a group rise over time; the group itself does not.

Why are the steps for MFA called something different?

Because the pay agreement for medical assistants (Medizinische Fachangestellte) is structured differently from the public sector. It uses activity groups instead of pay groups, and these depend on the number of completed further training hours. There, the steps are years of professional experience rather than experience levels.

Does the calculator apply to all employers?

No. It covers TVöD-P, Annex C of the TV-L, the general table of TVöD/VKA and the pay agreement for medical assistants. Church-based providers pay according to their own frameworks (AVR Caritas Annex 32, AVR Diakonie Deutschland, BAT-KF), and private chains often use in-house agreements; these tables are not yet included.

How up to date are the figures?

The pay table shown has applied since 01.05.2026. The amounts are taken to the cent from the published table and are not rounded. A new version is added after every round of collective bargaining; older versions remain available so you can see what applied while an advert was running.
